Amid the heavy rains and strong winds of Typhoon Ulysses on Thursday, November 12, Catriona Gray trended on Twitter after a netizen criticized the beauty queen for being in Colombia instead of helping her province.

The 2018 Miss Universe titleholder is currently in Colombia to judge the Miss Universe Colombia pageant but made a few stopovers along the way, which Catriona gladly shared on the internet.

However, the said snaps didn't sit well with a netizen.

“Cat, why are you in Colombia instead of helping your province deal with the typhoon,” the netizen chided.

“I have always been a fan, but especially with traveling during a pandemic? What example does taking this job send to everyone?

Catriona hails from Albay, one of the provinces severely affected by Typhoon Rolly in early November.

In response, Catriona replied, “This invitation was extended months ago, and even though I'm away, I've been doing my part in working with @philredcross since the day of the typhoon to provide aid and relief to the affected areas. Thank you for your concern.”

The same netizen thanked Cat for her response and said that she doesn't mean to hate on the beauty queen.

“Clearly, we don't see what we do off of social media,” the netizen added.

“I feel we need to hold even beauty queens accountable, and that's why I am especially pressed on the idea of traveling amidst a pandemic and how others can see this as their go-ahead to travel.”

The netizen continued, “I would love another response in this discussion. But appreciate your input, Cat.”

In a follow-up post, Catriona encouraged her followers to send aid to the victims of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses by donating to the Philippine Red Cross.

In a video, she said, “I am appealing to the generous donors and kind-hearted people from the Philippines and our friends from around the world, please help by donating to the Philippine Red Cross.

“These donations can help with its current rescue and relief operations and go towards the funding and distribution of hygiene kits, non-food, and food items that these affected Filipinos desperately need in these times of crisis.”
